Oh my dears, we have certainly moved up in the world when we start writing reviews of the Charlotte Street Hotel just after one about Home House. It’s certainly not our usual grotty pub fare (not that we don’t go to grotty pubs you understand, it’s just that we can’t often bring ourselves to write yet another identikit review of the state of Britain’s bogs).

So to the point in hand, the toilets of the Charlotte Street Hotel. Well, it is certainly one of our better experiences in convenience. Te environs are marble and minimal, the fittings are the usual stainless steel and very clean but the effect is not too stark. The cleanliness, the differentiation of the door handles,  the solid doors themselves complete with hooks and reaching all the way from floor to ceiling (people are learning) creates an overall ambience of quality without being too try hard. You certainly do feel like quality when you enter the area.

As seems to be all to often the case there were not real towels, but paper ones, on the sinks. In a hotel this is particularly galling as you can bet there is a note in the bathrooms upstairs talking about the environment and how we can all help to save it by not submitting towels for washing every day. If they are so concerned about the environment how come they don’t employ reusable towels rather than the landfill fodder that they have stacked up on the lovely marble sinks? We smell a rat….

So with  that in mind we have marked them down somewhat. Good for your behind, not good for the planet.

8/10
